Re-Engaging
For the church, the New Year technically begins with the First Sunday of Advent – the beginning of our liturgical year. That usually occurs around the first week of December.
For the world, the New Year begins on January 1st – that’s when a big crystal ball drops in Times Square, people raise a glass, and we all sing a song from a Scottish Bard called, Auld Lang Syne (or Times Long Past).
But I actually think that September is a time when a new year starts for a lot of us. In the church, it’s the beginning of our program year with new Sunday School Classes and Bible Studies and Confirmation, and Choir, and . . . and . . .
I think it is also a time for a lot of us to re-engage.
Let’s pretend that you haven’t been around as much this summer. It’s time for you to re-engage.
Let’s pretend it’s been several years since you’ve been around the church. It’s time for you to re-engage. September is a perfect time to turn over a new leaf and come back home.
Let’s pretend you’ve never had a church home. It’s time for you to engage for the first time and find one here.
To re-engage or engage is to admit that you’re ready for a new beginning, a re-start, a new way of living.
Most days I can’t even keep up with all the things that are happening around here. And that’s just the way I like it. So in the midst of all our busy-ness here, I’ll be looking for you as we begin our new year here at Prince of Peace in September. And whether you’ve been gone for just a couple of weeks or over the summer or for several years, I can’t wait to welcome you home.
Blessings,
Pastor John D. Morris, Senior Pastor |
