Advent Morning Prayer
Dec 4, 11 & 18 | 10:30 AM
Join us for Morning Prayer weekly in the Sanctuary during the Advent season. We begin tomorrow, Wednesday, Dec 4.
This last Sunday marked the beginning of Advent and a new church year, which always brings me hope and excitement.
We are waiting for Christmas Day to come!
Awaiting Christmas can mean many things, such as preparing the house and gifts, making cookies and desserts for friends and family, and sending Christmas cards to everyone.
It can be easy to get swept away in the joy and excitement of family and gifts, and we can miss the joy that comes from our reason for celebrating. I say this as I finish my own Christmas shopping and send presents to my friends around the country.
The season of Advent reminds me that Christmas is not only about gifts and decorating.
It reminds me of the hope of what God is doing in our lives and God’s presence in the here and now. Advent is about awaiting something bigger than anything we can imagine: the birth of the Savior.
Advent comes from the Latin word adventus, which means “arrival.” We are waiting for the arrival of Christ, God with us, who forgives us more than we can understand.
It anticipates so many good things to come amid the darkness. We hope and trust in God’s presence and arrival on Christmas Day—not in the loudness of the hustle and bustle of sales and gifts but in the quietness of a newborn baby and the promises God gives us each and every day.
God is with us in the quiet moments, too. I hope for those reminders this season as we await Christ’s birth.
I find Advent a great time to recenter myself and reflect on what God will do in my life this year. There are things I know will happen, and things I have no clue about are coming, which also brings excitement.
I pray you can look for God in every moment of your life this week.
God is with you as you pray and reflect on how God is working in you.
