Summer and Thoughtful Days
I know that summer doesn’t officially begin until June 21st of this year -- at 5:14 am EDT to be exact. But I always feel like Memorial Day is sort of the “unofficial” start to summer.
The weather has started to get much warmer; the pool is open; the kids are out of school; Vacation Bible School is coming soon; and we’re starting our summer worship schedule this Sunday (Remember: 5:30 pm on Saturday, and 9:00 am and 10:30 am on Sunday!!!).
In the church, we often use these summer months to plan for a new year and think about where we’ve been this past year. And since we have been restarting with a bit of a stutter step, thanks to Covid, we are going to be thinking a lot more this summer about where we are headed.
Pastor Tim is coming up on a year with us, but we’ve also lost some key staff members over the past couple of years. The leaders of our church are taking a hard look at what we will need both in the short term and the long term. We are looking at questions like:
How is the church changed since Covid?
What will be the future needs of our church?
What are we missing in our staff as we move forward?
What kind of church will we be in 5 or 10 years and what do we need to have in place to make that happen?
Last time I wrote to you, I shared our new summer worship schedule and some thoughts about our worship times in general. I appreciate (and have noted!) the various responses and ideas that I received from many of you. I would love to hear more about what you are thinking, both about our worshipping congregation and about staffing for the church.
As you take some time to stretch and relax this summer, shoot me an email with your thoughts for our future together. I want all of our ideas to help shape our ministry.
In Christ,
Pastor John D. Morris
