A Psalm for Traveling & Travelers
Lord, you have searched me out,
O Lord, you have known me.
You know my sitting down and my rising up,
you discern my thoughts from afar. (Ps 139:1-2)
During the summer months, when we travel and head out on vacations, I like to take Psalm 139 with me. It reminds me that God is with me wherever I go. Even when I’m not in my regular routines and patterns of prayer and worship, God is there by me side.
You trace my journeys and my resting places
and are acquainted with all my ways. (Ps 139:3)
Sometimes I need to be reminded that God is with me. And that there is no place where I can elude the mercies and blessings of God’s love.
Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence? (Ps 139:7)
I love to travel overseas and visit distant cultures and countries. But God is with me there, too, always by my side for comfort and guidance and support.
If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in
the uttermost parts of the sea,
even there your hand will lead me,
and your right hand hold me fast. (Ps 139:9-10)
I hope you also remember that God is with you wherever you go this summer and however you relax and recharge and engage in some health re-creation. And the best news of all is that wherever you go, you can pull up our worship service on-line and still be here when you’re there.
Safe travels and God’s unending love,
Pastor John D. Morris, Senior Pastor
