Finding Your Reconnection Spot

“Part of coming to camp is to detox.”  I overheard this statement from a fellow local Pastor Aaron Layne to one of his campers that was asking why they could not have coffee (Must be over 18 at camp to drink coffee).

It was a simple statement and maybe even something flip to get this student to understand that it’s ok not to have access to everything. But this simple statement really resonated for me, and held a lot of truth as we think about our relationship with God and each other. Often times we think about the ways we can detox physically, but not how we do it spiritually.

During a week of camp, you have so many things removed from your life. Simple conveniences like what you want to eat, to electronic devices; along with more complex conveniences like air conditioning. The funny thing is that you don’t seem to miss them.  It was great to watch kids come out of their shells, and start to be goofy again. Watch them slowly move from looking around at the others doing actions to the songs to being fully alive and present in the music. To smile and have fun.

Being at camp for even a short time this week, was very refreshing and cleansing as well. In a short time I was able to refocus and think about ways I can be more present with my relationship with God.

In my life, camp has always held that place. Where is yours and how can you spend some time there?

God’s Peace,

Pastor Tim
