Do you believe in Jesus Christ the Son of God?
I do.But sometimes I wonder how much the world does.
This Sunday is the Sunday when we celebrate the Holy Trinity – a doctrine of the church that places Christ at the center of everything.
Have you ever noticed in the Creeds (Nicene and Apostles) that the paragraph on Jesus is almost bigger than the other two paragraphs combined? Jesus wins the Holy Trinity Olympics!
But I think Christ is at the center of the Trinity because we can relate better to Jesus of Nazareth than we can to either the God of the Universe or to the unknown rhythms of the Holy Spirit among us.
Christ makes sense to us because he chose to be human like us. Sometimes hungry, sometimes hurting, sometimes happy, sometimes grouchy, but always gracious.
In Nazareth, Jesus’ birthplace, there is a huge Roman Catholic basilica dedicated to his birth. Over the entrance to that church, in large granite letters, are the words in Latin, Verbum caro factum est, i.e., “The Word became flesh.”
To save me, Jesus became like me and like you.
Believing with you,
Pastor John D. Morris
