Happy June, everyone! For me, summer officially starts after Memorial Day and as June begins!
I love the weather and sunshine that come with the season, as I get to take advantage of walking and being in God’s creation more. I always love feeling the sunshine on my face as I walk.
It is also a time of travel and adventure, including members of our church in Turkey and Greece right now (check out our Facebook page every day for the next couple of weeks because they will be posting pictures!)
Summer is a great time for adventures, but it is also a time of transition. School is out, and all our kids are getting ready for a new school year, possibly a new building, new people, etc.
It is also a time of moving and adjustment. College students may be moving home for the summer, and it’s an adjustment for everyone to live together again.
Long story short, summer is a season of “in-between.” There is so much done and so much to come ahead in the rest of the year, both exciting and anxious, uncertainty and anticipation.
Change is on the horizon and will be here sooner than sometimes we want it to be.
But it’s exciting to see what God will do and lead us in our daily lives at this time.
Yesterday, I shared with our high schoolers “A Blessing for the In-Between” by Kate Bowler, and I think we all could benefit from this good word.
Blessed are we, somewhere unnameable, fully present to our reality.
Tracking it with all its subtle gradations and colors and contrasts, the sweetness and the struggle, the stuck and not-quite-fitting.
Authentic to it, mapping the full strangeness of the new emergent landscape.
Blessed are we, dear ones, not calling it too soon.
Not settling for the neat and buttoned-up, the too-tied-up, the not-quite-true.
Bless all of it, the way we might widen our gaze to encompass it and embrace it.
And bless you, moving into the unknown, waiting, daring to hope.
