Ephesians Worship Series Coming This Summer

Every wonder, or perhaps get frustrated by, the way our worship readings change every week? The selections are obvious for festivals like Christmas and Easter, but the Sundays after the Pentecost that last all summer and fall? We’re offering a worship opportunity this summer to grow through Paul’s letter to one congregation in Ephesus.

You won’t have had to travel there recently (though can’t hurt) to get a glimpse of how the gospel changes everything for the Church.

For seven weeks in July and August, beginning July 13 & 14, our second reading in worship each week will be from the Paul’s letter to the Ephesians. The readings will follow an ancient practice called Lectio continua (Latin for continuous reading), which is reading scripture in sequence over a period of time. The selections of scripture will start in the first chapter and move in order through the sixth chapter, skipping some verses with the hope that the congregation will read the verses in between the appointed worship readings on their own. We’re sure it will give us a glimpse of how and why the creators of our appointed worship readings chose what is heard in worship and what is not.

Our liturgy, hymnody and sermons during these seven weeks will all be connected to our worship readings from Ephesians. We are providing a brochure with all the readings, and discussion questions for personal or summer fellowship Bible studies with friends.
