Alleluia!  Christ is risen!
Christ is risen, indeed!  Alleluia
!

I’m sure you have heard me say it a thousand times, but Easter is not a day, it is a season. In the church, it is 50 great days of rejoicing until we get to the Sunday of Pentecost. But in some ways, I think, Easter is harder to keep than Lent.

In Lent we set aside 40 days to pray and fast and deny ourselves until the great celebration of Easter. And usually, the weather helps us with Lent. It’s always late winter, early spring, and we are not quite out and about yet, so we can settle into the purple patterned pattern of Lent.

But Easter is big and busy. Spring springs, and suddenly we are outdoors, and we are on the cusp of graduations and the wedding season, and the time change has us out on our decks in the evening, and then all of a sudden we forget that we are still in the midst of Easter.

So here’s some things we do in the church to keep Easter:

Banners and streamers will be up for a full 50 days.

Alleluias & Resurrection shouts will be heard throughout the church.

Our three readings at worship will be all from the New Testament.

No hymns will be played in minor keys.

All members will wear radiant smiles at all times.

Pastors will have upbeat, happy sermons.

Christ will be raised in our lives.

I like both Lent and Easter, for different reasons. But whatever we can do to keep Easter going . . . all the better!

Alleluia!  Christ is risen!
Christ is risen, indeed!  Alleluia!

Rising with you,

Pastor John D. Morris
