August 6, 2024

August is when we begin to look ahead to the upcoming school year and what we need to do to prepare. All the back-to-school commercials and sales that fill our phones, TVs, and inboxes right now to make sure we “get the best deal!”

I always like going through the school aisles to see what is popular with kids and what deals I can grab for my personal use. I love getting pens and notebooks.

(Also tax-free sales are through Thursday, so make sure you get your school stuff this week!)

It can be a time of excitement and nervousness about what’s next.

And that includes me.

As I have been nearing the one-year mark of my internship, many of you have asked me if my end date is soon and what the rest of my seminary coursework looks like.

Am I leaving?

And all I have to say is…not yet.

My internship through Trinity Lutheran Seminary is set up differently than previous interns': I have two years instead of one.

This can happen because I am required to take at least one class a semester alongside my work here.

So I will have a final first day in my office here!

I have extra time in my context to learn and experience the life of the church.

I get to go through Christmas, Lent, Easter, and everything else…again, which will help me feel more confident in leading and planning wherever I end up in the future.

Then, when I finish my internship, I will get my degree. I will not have to go back to campus.

I am excited that it’s not time (yet) to say goodbye to you all, but I get to continue to live and be a part of the congregation.

Here’s to the school year and our time together.

God’s peace,

Vicar Jennie
