Blessed Lent!

I hope as you read this email, you are finding this Lenten season to be centering. For those who have not started, it’s not too late! The season of Lent focuses on three aspects: fasting, prayer, and almsgiving. Here are a few ideas:

Fasting:
This is not your diet plan, but instead a time to move from excess to restraint. This practice will help you reflect on whether your habits are getting you where you want to be in life. If not, you can begin the spiritual practice of pulling back. If that doesn’t work, it might be time to ask for help, from a friend family member or trained professional.
What is the habit you have that takes away from relationships?

Prayer:
Find a time in your day to be thankful for one minute. Give thanks to God for all you have in the world, materials, and relationships.

Read Grace Unbounded. We ordered 150 copies, and they flew off the table! We have 50 more coming this week, or you can download it as an eBook.

Make a prayer chair, a space in your home that all you do is pray. Sit in the prayer chair for at least 10 minutes a day to have conversation with God.

Almsgiving:
Consider helping a literal neighbor, those who live right next to you or in your neighborhood. This can be intentionally having a simple conversation with someone who has struggled during Covid; cooking a meal for a family that is in need or just busy; helping out with yard work of a vulnerable neighbor.

You could also look into doing something that will benefit the local community such as 'Undie Sundays'. We are collecting all types of underwear for children, women, and men: boxers, briefs, granny pants, hi-cut, and low-rise. And don’t forget bras, socks, men’s undershirts, and adult Depends products!

If it is a global impact you are seeking, consider helping “Hoops for Haiti,” or at least watching the funny videos here.

Whatever you do, I hope you can do it intentionally. If you can’t do all three, what can you do? Good. Now, go and do it.

God’s Peace,

Pastor Tim
