Happy Saint Timothy Day!
Did you know that the church has several feast days throughout the year for prominent church figures? Today is the Feast of St. Timothy. So it is appropriate that I get the chance to write the article for today at Prince of Peace.
There are many ways to celebrate St. Timothy's Day. Since he was believed not only to have written two books of Holy Scripture but also served as a bishop in the early church, the best way to celebrate this day is to bring donuts, pies, and delicious homemade goodies to your pastors - especially ones who share the same name.
(You may have caught on to the fact that this feast day also happens to share a date with another special day on our secular calendar. I hope you got a good chuckle out of it.)
While we are on the topic of special days in the church year, Holy Week is coming up quickly. Palm Sunday starts on April 13. We have many traditions that surround the fun church feasts and celebrations like Christmas and Easter. Yet Holy Week has just as much to offer.Connecting into Holy Week deepens and enriches the story of Jesus’ death and resurrection in our spiritual journey. Observing Jesus’s passion also connects us around the world and throughout space and time with other Christians who have marked this time as well.So this is your heads up: think about how you will engage in Holy Week this year. We have services every night starting on Monday, April 14 at 7 pm through the Easter Vigil on Saturday, April 19. Consider attending all of them, a few of them, or one of them. You might make it a discipline to read through the different accounts of Jesus' Passion this week. You might have another way in mind, but I hope that you find a way to make this week set apart from other weeks.
God’s Peace,
Pastor Tim
P.S. Happy first of April! The actual day for the feast of St. Timothy is January 26, but you can celebrate it any day!
