Lent at Prince of Peace
We observe Lent from Ash Wednesday, February 18 until Saturday, April 4, 2026.
Ash Wednesday worship at noon and 7 p.m. will include Imposition of the Ashes.
Lent ... a Wilderness Journey
With Ash Wednesday, we begin a journey. A 40 day journey. A Lenten Journey. A Wilderness Journey.
Each year the church sets aside this time to help us to re-think and re-focus our lives as followers of Jesus. Nearly six weeks of intentionally thinking about who we are and whose we are. This year our Lenten Journey also coincides with Ramadan in which our Muslim brothers and sisters will also be entering into a time of prayer and fasting and self-examination.
For me, Lent has always been a time to pause, to slow down, and to think about who I am in the midst of the world around me.
Here at Prince of Peace, we are going to especially focus on the “Wilderness” aspect of Lent. What’s it like to not be truly settled? What does it feel to be at the mercy of the elements? What if we don’t always know exactly where we are going and even where we are?
My prayer is that you use this time of Lent. Don’t let it just pass you by. Settle into it. Use our daily devotions. Come to Wednesday Night Soup, Study, and Prayer around the Cross.
Use these 40 days that God has given you to remember who you are and where you are headed.
There are a lot of things in our larger society that seem unsettled right now. Too much violence. Too much fear. Too much name calling. Too much unwelcoming. Too much too much.
Use Lent this year. Let God hold you. Let God set a new course for your life. Let God bring you peace.
It’s just six weeks. What could go wrong? What could go right?
In Christ,
Pastor John D. Morris
