As we get into spring there are a lot of good smells in the air as we see flowers blooming and trees growing their leaves and yes dirt piles being turned over getting ready for the summer. In my first call, we had a tradition celebrating the fifth Sunday of Easter as the Blessing of Seeds, Soil, and Tractors.
It was a Sunday to look forward to as folks would drive their all shined up tractors to church, gardeners would bring in seeds and gloves, and we would end the service with our hands in the dirt giving thanks for God’s creation.
It is a centering act in the spring to get a little dirty, take out what was old, and prune back the bushes. It is also a good reminder that our Creator has, to quote Martin Luther, “Created us and everything that exists.”
If you have not had the chance to get your hands dirty this spring, we have a couple of opportunities this weekend. Come build new relationships with fellow members of POP and rekindle that relationship with God our creator. If you have some bring along a shovel, 12-prong rake, or wheelbarrow bring them along to help us keep moving.
Friday 4-6 pm Cinco De Mulcho, refreshments provided afterward.
Saturday 8-Noon Donuts and juice
Even if you can’t mulch, maybe take some intentional time outside to give thanks for God’s good creation and all that exists around us.
God’s Peace,
Pastor Tim
