Mozart’s Requiem

Most people are familiar with the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart to some degree. His playful and melodic music captures a whole era of music history and his unique and fascinating story was brought to life in the 1984 hit movie, Amadeus. The pop group Falco even had a music hit song “Rock Me Amadeus” in 1985 and this year’s academy awards featured the Lacrimosa (weeping/tearful) movement from his Requiem during the “in memoriam” section of the show.

This coming Sunday you will have the chance to hear Mozart’s monumental setting of the Requiem Mass (a musical setting of the Latin Mass for the Dead) right at Prince of Peace! Like most of Mozart’s music, this work is melodic, playful and dramatic. It will feature our own Prince of Peace Choir, a professional orchestra and four soloists.

One of the interesting things about this particular work is that Mozart died before he actually completed it, which means that any time you hear Mozart’s Requiem, you are also hearing someone’s interpretation of what Mozart intended. This creates a unique mystery about this around this work!

I hope you will join us this Sunday to hear this masterpiece. If you are intrigued to learn more about the mystery and history of this piece, join us at 3:30 for a pre-talk by former choir member, Jamie Blair. And if you just want to enjoy the music, come at 4 p.m. for the concert. I hope to see you there!
