A New Ministry Group Formed
Following the Adult Study based on the book Be the Bridge, there was interest in continuing the discussion: What is the history of racial inequity in our country? Are there ways we can alter our words, attitudes, and actions that would help bridge the gap between races? How does the Bible speak to these issues?
From there, a small group decided to form a new ministry group called Faith, Justice, and Racial Reconciliation, and its formation was approved by the church council at its March meeting. Although it’s still in the early stages, the planning group has several items in place:
The goals of this ministry will come under three headings:
We hope to organize activities such as exploring the history of the Depp house, north of Shawnee Hills, and other local places that played a part in post-Civil War America.
There is a similar group at Indian Run United Methodist, and we are excited about a partnership with them.
We hope to continue our learning through more book studies, bringing in speakers, and setting up Lunch & Learn events for the congregation.
