Happy Thanksgiving
As the calendar flips to December, a sense of anticipation and joy fills the air. This is the herald of Advent, a sacred season that transcends tinsel and lights, gift wrapping and cookies, cheesy movies and holiday parties.
Advent is a season of mindful reflection. Amidst the hustle and bustle of holiday festivities, Advent invites us to be intentionally present. In Advent, we reflect on the timeless story of Christ's birth, anticipate His coming, and embody the virtues of hope, peace, joy, and love.
As you move through this season, I invite you to print out these 4 questions and prayers. Place them somewhere to ponder each week (bathroom mirror, car dashboard, even maybe your wallet):
1. Week 1 – Hope: In a world that praises the latest, greatest, and busiest, what anchors you?
Gracious God, fill our hearts with unwavering hope. Make us trust in your promises and be certain in the knowledge that you are always with us. Amen.
2. Week 2 – Peace: Where is God calling you into reconciliation with others, with yourself?
Generous God, give us the peace that surpasses all understanding. Awaken us to be peacemakers in a world full of war, violence, and anger. Amen.
3. Week 3 – Joy: What joy would you like to rediscover in your life?
Loving God, renew in us the joy that You bring to this world and our lives. May it burst out of us and spread to a world that desperately needs more awe and delight. Amen.
4. Week 4 – Love: How has embodied love been a presence in your life?
Gracious God, fill us with the love that comes from your son. May we hear His voice clearly so that we can give and receive love. Embolden us to extend that love to others this season. Amen.
May you have a very Blessed Advent this year!
God’s Peace,
Pastor Tim
