Riding the Easter Wave

Alleluia! Christ is Risen!
Christ is risen, indeed!  Alleluia!

I’m not sure that I’m quite ready to come down off the mountain top that was our Easter Celebration. I’m still singing the songs in my head backed by a full choir, organ, brass, and strings. What a beautiful celebration!

And the best thing is that Easter is not just a day in the church. It is 50 days of rejoicing. We don’t have to swing into a post-Easter depression; we can ride this wave for at least seven more weeks.

The banners will still be up; all the hymns will be in a major key; the Easter announcement of resurrection will still be shouted back and forth among us; and even the sermons (Right Tim and Jim?) will be filled with messages of the hope and promise of God’s risen love in Jesus Christ.

So let’s keep the party going. Let’s continue to gather in large numbers to celebrate the new life that is ours. Let’s repeat what the two men in “dazzling clothes” said to those who first ventured a peek into the empty tomb.

“Why do you look of the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen.”

As I said in my sermon on Easter Day, I just can’t get enough Easter. It’s my favorite holiday, filled with some of my favorite hymns, and all of it bathed in the light and love of God’s risen life in Jesus Christ.

Alleluia! Christ is Risen!
Christ is risen, indeed!  Alleluia!

In Easter Joy,
