And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God is its light, and its lamp in the Lamb.
Revelation 21:23

In him there is no darkness at all. The night and the day are both alike. The Lamb is the light of the city of God. Shine in my heart, Lord Jesus.

I don’t think I have S.A.D. (Seasonal Affected Disorder), but I am sad when the days start to get darker. Yesterday was our last day when we had more light than darkness. From now until late March (near Easter!!) we have less than 12 hours of sunlight every day, officially 11 hours 59 minutes and 29 seconds, and that’s if it’s not cloudy.

This isn’t a new thing. It happens every year. But I always lament the day when it comes.

Maybe when I retire I’ll live here for six months and then somewhere in the Southern Hemisphere for the other six. What if the earth just wouldn’t turn and rotate so much?

But the oncoming darkness is no threat to John of Patmos. When he wrote the book of Revelation, he described heaven as a place that needs no sun for light and no moon to reflect the sun’s light.

God is all the light needed in heaven, and this light will never burn out. It’s like Alaska in the summertime when “night and day are both alike.”

I long for more light in my life. I try to get that light by being close to God’s word, and surrounding myself with family and friends who are positive. I try to get more light in my life by being fully present in worship and singing the sturdy hymns of faith as loud as I can. I try to get more light in my life by remembering that all the light I will ever need is in Christ Jesus.

In him was life, and the life was the light of all people.
John 1:4
