Stewardship & Keeping House
Our word for “stewardship” in the church, which we normally define as thinking about your tithes and offerings, comes from an old English word for “housekeeper.”
The truth is that every year at Prince of Peace we need to do some housekeeping. We need to make sure that our facility is taken care of, that our staff is being paid a good and fair salary, that all of our financial commitments are cared for, and that we can extend what we do here to the larger community and world.
We call that “stewardship.” It means that we are going to be asking you once again to think about how you can support our ministry.
This is an annual process for us, and this year the theme is “Our Prayers and Our Gifts.”
Next week, you will be receiving from me a letter to introduce this year’s Stewardship Campaign and to tell you where we are headed. The letter will also include a prayer card.
Essentially, I am going to be asking you to pray over the next month about what you and your family might do to support our ministry.
Sharon and I are asked to support a lot of things these days. Our alma maters, lots of worthy non-profits, our professional organizations, and even the scouts selling popcorn at our door – all of them want a donation from us, and we are glad to give it. But our giving has always and will always start with the church.
We keep house by making sure God’s house is always open and ready for business.
How will you use the gifts that you’ve been given this year? How will your prayers be answered for the work of Christ and Christ’s church?
Watch for my letter, and I’ll be praying along with you.
In Christ,
Pastor John D. Morris
