Transitions … and Growth

Weeping may linger for the night, but joy comes with the morning.
Psalm 30:5

As we come to the close of the school year, there can be a lot of different emotions that come up. Grief over the loss of routine and seeing friends; joy of new opportunities and maybe even getting to sleep in; anxiety over what the “new normal” might soon look like. Even if you are not directly involved in the school calendar, you can feel the shift.

Change can be hard, but it isn’t necessarily bad, because it can lead us to something new and different. As the metaphorical and actual seasons of our lives change, so do our routine and programming here at Prince of Peace. We move away from a regular day-to-day calendar and transition to events that extend over a few days, or even a week. This includes some really fun activities coming up:

- Hopewood Pines Camp Week (June 8-13)
- Vacation Bible School (June 16-18)
If you have not yet signed up for VBS, please SIGN UP by June 13
- … and the Senior High Mission Trip to Idaho (June 22-28)

My hope for you is that you also can use this summer as a chance to do something different in your faith life. What might that look like? Is there a spiritual discipline that you’re interested in, but not sure how to start? If so, check out a daily devotion app with notifications turned on.

Have you been longing to take time to reconnect with scripture and prayer as the busyness of life has gotten in the way? If so, try starting with the books of 1st and 2nd Kings or Colossians, a hint as to what we will be preaching on this summer.
Would you love to read a new or old book that reconnects you to God and your neighbor?

If so, I highly recommend Where God meets Man by Gerhard Forde, an oldie but goodie celebrating its 50th anniversary.
Or if you want something more current, Disciples of White Jesus: The Radicalization of American Boyhood written by an ELCA pastor, my seminary classmate, and friend, Pr. Angela Denker.
Or, would you love to try serving in your community in a new way? If so, check out the Dublin Food Pantry or One Dublin.

Many blessings as you navigate these days ahead. May it be for you what it exactly needs to be.

God’s Peace,
Pastor Tim
