Upcoming Sabbatical for Pastor John

A sabbatical is mostly meant to be a sabbath, downtime, a rest from the day-to-day demands of a thriving ministry, a time away to pray and listen and re-charge for more ministry. Our policy allows for 4 months every 7 years.

My sabbatical will be this summer from the end of May until the end of September. At the beginning I will spend a short time with our choir in Prague, but then I will mostly travel to catch up with friends, whittle down my reading list, and spend some time in my garden. So what can you do for me while I’m on sabbatical?

First of all, help Pastor Tim with whatever he needs. Not only will I be gone this summer, but Vicar Jennie also completes her internship on June 1. So Pastor Tim will be in charge along with help from Pastor Jim and the rest of our staff, but he will need your support.

Secondly, pray for me. This isn’t my first sabbatical at Prince of Peace but it will be my last. I need this time away to be strengthened for ministry that is still ahead of me. So bless me with your prayers and thank you for allowing me to have this break in our ministry.

Finally, know that I am praying for you. While I will not be here in person, I will certainly be aware of what’s going on in our parish. My wife, Sharon, will not be on a sabbatical. So, from a distance, I will hear what’s going on and pray for you as needs arise.

My other sabbaticals here have provided me with an energy and drive that has allowed us to build, add new staff, and pay off our debt. I don’t know exactly how I will be charged up in the fall when I return and what I will unleash on you then, but come October 1, I will be fully ready to go.
