Nursery Ministry

The nursery is staffed at the 9:00 and 10:30 worship services on Sundays.

The nursery is open at the Saturday 5:30 pm service for parents to stay with their children. The nursery is cleaned every Sunday afternoon by our cleaning crew.

The nursery is for children, walkers (15 mo.) to age 5.

We encourage 3 year olds to begin to attend Sunday School during the Sunday 9 am worship service during the school year. We encourage all of our children to attend worship with their parents.

If you have questions, please contact Sue Miller, Nursery Coordinator, at 614.766.6377 ext. 18 or smiller@princeofpeacedublin.org

ATTENDANTS

The nursery attendant is responsible for the care and wellbeing of the children, walkers (15 months old) to age 5, of Prince of Peace members or visitors who wish to use the nursery facilities. The attendant is trained in first aid, infant and child CPR, and communicable disease awareness. The attendant has had a finger print background check. The attendant must be able to relate well with families and be willing to fulfill the responsibilities in accordance with the Christian philosophy of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.

RATIOS

The ideal ratio for the nursery is one adult to six toddlers. One or two parent helpers will be scheduled to keep a safe, low attendant-to-child ratio Each Sunday, we also schedule confirmation students, grades 6-8, to serve as helpers in the Nursery. Children ages 3 and older are recommended to be in the Sunday School program during the 9:30 am worship service hour.

PARENT HELPERS

We serve together! We recommend that every parent (mom or dad) with a child who uses the church nursery program, help in the nursery during one worship service every six weeks.

To make these arrangements, please contact: (614) 766-6377, ext 16 or email us.

Questions?

HOW DO I CHECK IN?

On your child’s first visit to the nursery you will fill out a registration/information form with emergency information. We suggest you introduce your child to the attendant, reassure him/her that you will be back, and tell him/her that they will be safe and receive good care.

Please add your name and your child’s name to the weekly check-in sheet. Take a pager. Turn the pager on and keep it with you during the time your child is in the nursery. Return the pager upon picking up your child.

Individual needs or medical conditions: On the Nursery Registration Form, please include information regarding medical or allergy alerts.

what if my child has SEPARATION ISSUES?

We recommend that you stay with your child. Visit briefly with your child the first few times. Some children need that extra familiarity in order to transition into someone else’s care. Separation anxiety is quite common; children soon learn to trust the environment that you have chosen for them and will adjust given the right amount of reassurance, consistency and routine.

what if my child is SICK?

We cannot care for a child who has a fever, cough, runny nose (other than clear) or runny eyes. A child who has had a fever, diarrhea, vomiting or who has taken a new medication within the last 24 hours should not be using the nursery.

How will you contact me?

Vibrate only.  The on-premise vibrating pager system will give you the reassurance that you can be contacted immediately should the need arise. We have a five-minute cry rule: if your child is still inconsolable after five minutes, you will be paged. Children can upset themselves to the point of becoming sick, or having problems breathing. They can also upset other children with constant crying, and pretty soon you have several children
unable to console themselves or be consoled by the attendants.

If you are paged, the pager will vibrate every 60 seconds until it is turned off. The pager must be returned when you pick up your child.

More Information

The nursery is equipped with age-appropriate equipment to allow your child to safely explore and learn while having fun.

NO FOOD is permitted in the Nursery.

We do not change diapers. We will page you if your child needs to be changed. Keep diaper bags/back packs with you. A changing table is located in the hallway restroom and in the Nursery restroom. If your child is potty-trained please take him/her to the restroom before entering the nursery.

We will assist all children who need to use the restroom during the time you are away.
